North Region Community Service

We are excited to announce that this year’s North Region community service project will be a benefit drive for The Sparrows Nest, a christian ministry center located in Athens, GA. Their mission is to seek to change lives through the power of God and nurturing relationships. By creatively meeting the needs of a population at risk, they build trust, which is the doorway to hope and transformation. The items collected for this year’s community service project will be collected at the 2018 North Region Rally (September 6th-7th). The winner will be determined by adding the weight of the socks and underwear to half the weight of the hygiene items. For example, if your chapter brings 40 pounds of hygiene items and 35 pounds of socks and underwear, then the final weight will be 55 pounds. We look forward to each of you participating and an informational flyer and letter can be found below:

North Region Teacher Spotlight
Ruby McCracken is in her fourth year at North Murray High School teaching agriculture. She is originally from Reagan, TN and attended Lexington High School. Ruby was her high schools first state officer, State Secretary in 1988-89, and her school’s first female American Degree recipient. A graduate of from the University of Tennessee Mrs. McCracken taught in Tennessee for 15 years before moving to Georgia to marry her husband, Nelson McCracken, who also teaches Agriculture at Bagley Middle School. Ruby’s goals have progressed into developing a well-balanced program that inspires students within the chapter and provides opportunity outside of the chapter. A chapter deeply involved in the community and respected by their peers. A chapter that truly believes in and focuses on our mission statement of "premier leadership, personal growth and career success." Ruby’s favorite part of being an Ag teacher is watching her daughter become involved and enjoy the FFA and getting to work with her husband. Something to know about Mrs. McCracken is that she keeps her a board that she cut in her very first FFA contest for board squaring in Jr. Ag Mechanics. Ruby stated “I won the Area contest however, my team did not advance. I still have the board I cut that day and keep it in my classroom. It reminds me daily of my father who was a carpenter and the days that he would take me to work with him, of my mother that barely let me take Agriculture because "Ag was not for girls", and how she chaperoned almost every FFA trip and grew to love it with me, of my advisor, Jerry Neal Wood, that believed in me and was a father figure for me, but most of all it reminds me that God used something so simple and plain to direct my future. So, how much more will He do.”
