FFA Day at the Capitol

Atlanta, Georgia * February 19, 2008

Each year the National FFA Organization celebrates National FFA Week during the week of George Washington's birthday. This year, National FFA Week was February 18-22, 2008. As part of FFA week, the Georgia FFA Association hosts the FFA Day at the Capitol. More than twenty FFA chapters from across Georgia, several members of the Georgia General Assembly, Georgia Department of Education, FFA Alumni and Young Farmer's Associations, as well as various representatives from the agriculture industry attended the FFA Day breakfast on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. The program included remarks from Governor Sonny Purdue, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin, Senator John Bulloch, Representative Tom McCall, House Speaker Glenn Richardson, Chief Deputy State Superintendent Stuart Bennett, State Young Farmer President Tommy Stalvey, and Southern Region Vice President Jessica Padgett. Following the breakfast, FFA members visited with their respective Legislators at the State Capitol, were recognized on the Senate and House floors, and took a group picture with the Governor in the Capitol. The theme for FFA Week was Blue Jackets, Bright Futures.
