Camp John Hope FFA-FCCLA Center is accepting applications for 2017 Summer Staff! CJH will have the first week of Summer Leadership Camp, May 29th-June 2nd. The Summer Staff program at CJH will work the week of SLC as well as with rental groups, FVSU STEM camp, & COLT throughout the summer. CJH Summer staff will continue to assist in areas of recreation, pool, grounds, and food service,but not be responsible for programming. 
 
 

  Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation $5,000 Scholarships

  FFA members must watch the movie, Deep in the Heart, and then submit an essay focused on a topic tied to discussion themes: Stewardship, Faith, Resiliency, FFA and 4-H. The program is open to any current FFA member in good standing. If the winner is not a graduating senior, the scholarship will be held in escrow until claimed. Essays must be submitted to the Georgia FFA Foundation by midnight February 17, by e-mail to kjones@gaaged.org or by mail, but they must be postmarked by February 17.

  Congratulations to Mr. Herbert Teague – Retired as an Ag Teacher in Gilmer County after teaching for 31 years and a long list of accomplishments. He will be inducted into the Georgia Ag Ed Teacher Hall of Fame. The Ag Teacher Hall of Fame ceremony will be held at the FFA Center near Covington, Georgia on January 17, 2017 in Mobley Hall beginning at 5:00 p.m. Please come to the ceremony to find out more about this individual and his service to our great profession.

They need to apply early because interviews begin in February. The selection process is competitive, and spaces will fill quickly. The first round of hiring is only for students who were in FFA or FCCLA programs. Users can learn about 235 unique careers in agriculture, search for careers, access educational requirements & link to current job openings. It also offers the Career Finder, an interactive assessment designed to help students match careers with their interests.

The Foundation is once again conducting its 10 for 10 Giving Program. You can give $10 for a month for 10 months for a total yearly contribution of $100. This is an easy way to give to the Foundation. If you are interested in 10 for 10, please return the form to us.   COLT registration now open! This summer, we are offering two, 3-day, “retreat style” COLT Conferences in July that are open to any chapter in the state. COLT is available at the FFA-FCCLA Camp in Covington & at Camp John Hope in Fort Valley. Professional speaker, Ms. Patty Hendrickson will be in Covington & Mr. Patrick Grady will be at Camp John Hope. The 2016-2017 State FFA Officer team will be at both locations. The scholarship review committee received and considered 53 applications.  Students that have earned a 2016 WLC Scholarship  will be recognized at the State FFA Convention. Congratulations to the scholarship winners!

  State FFA Convention Online Registration website will close at 11:59 p.m. on April 1.  After the site goes down, the only way to register will be onsite at the State Convention, and the chapter fee will increase to $300.

The Star Farmer finalists are Jared Cook, Hayden Echols & Alyson Pope. The Star in Agribusiness finalists are Chandler Kudyk, De’Andre Wallace-Nash & Rhet Thornton. The Star finalists in Agricultural Placement are Cejay Heath, Makayla Holmes & Murdock Wynn. The Star finalists for in Agriscience are Hunter Corbett, Viral Patel & Rachel Solomon.

Vendors include colleges and universities from all over Georgia, professional associations, and Agricultural Education relelated businesses. In addition to the exhibits, students and advisors can enjoy participating in different hands-on activities and listening to the talent show contestants!

  Blue & Gold Raffle - Zero Turn Mower

  Lasseter Equipment Group has again generously donated a John Deere zero turn mower for our Blue & Gold Gala raffle. This is a great fundraiser for the Georgia FFA Foundation. This is the only fundraiser where we ask chapters to help raise money for the Foundation. Each chapter is asked to sell at least 10 tickets.  The drawing for will be held at the 9th Annual Blue & Gold Gala on Friday, March 11. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO WIN! Cash prizes available for chapters who sell the most tickets.  
 

  NAAE Greenhouse Construction/Improvement Grants -- Apply by January 15th

  NAAE is excited to announce that it is now accepting applications from members who are seeking to implement a greenhouse construction or enhancement project for their middle school or high school agricultural education program. In 2015-2016 school year, two $2,000 competitive grants will be awarded by NAAE and sponsored by International Greenhouse Company as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.   Smith-Hughes Act 100th Anniversary Logo Design Contest

  In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Smith-Hughes Act, the National Council for Agricultural Education is announcing a logo design contest. This contest is open to students currently enrolled in K-12 and post-secondary agricultural education and related programs (e.g. agricultural communications, agricultural leadership) with cash prizes provided for the top three designs ($500, $300, & $200). The #SpeakAg Challenge is often promoted in the classroom, & we want to provide incentive for ag teachers/FFA advisors to use #SpeakAg as a catalyst to teach skills in ag advocacy. One teacher and FFA advisor from each national FFA region will be awarded a $1,000 unrestricted grant upon completion of the #SpeakAg Challenge in October. The 2015 FFA Day at the Fair Middle School Program will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, in Reaves Arena at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Georgia National Fair in Perry. This activity targets agricultural education students and FFA members in grades 6-9 only and is designed to offer an interactive look at what agricultural education and the FFA have to offer.

  Ag Technologies Cornhole Tournament at State FFA Convention

  87th Georgia FFA Convention Registration

  The online Registration site for the 87th Georgia FFA Convention is now open. Registration is based on a chapter fee. The registration fee for each chapter is $250. That fee covers all FFA members, advisors & chaperones who attend. The online registration site will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1. Once the site closes, the only way to register is onsite at the Convention. All onsite registration will cost $300 per chapter. All registration payment must be postmarked by April 10.

  Richard Woods, Georgia's School Superintendent announced, Monday, Mar 2nd that the Ga Department of Education and Ga Department of Agriculture will celebrate National Agriculture Week, Mar 15-21, 2015; in addition to the Governor's Ag Day on Mar 10th. GaDOE and the GaDOA will hold an essay contest, poster contest, and coloring contest. All entries should focus on the 2015 theme, “Agriculture in my county & state: What does agriculture do for me?” Entries are due no later than Friday, April 3.

These students will interview at the State FFA Convention on Thursday, April 23, and the state proficiency results will be announced live on stage during the 3rd general session of the 87th Georgia FFA Convention at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24. An interview schedule will be announced on April 1.  
 

  Registration for 87th Georgia FFA Convention is open

  The online Registration site for the 87th Georgia FFA Convention is now open. Registration is based on a chapter fee. The registration fee for each chapter is $250. That fee covers all FFA members, advisors & chaperones who attend. The online registration site will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1. Once the site closes, the only way to register is onsite at the Convention. All onsite registration will cost $300 per chapter. All registration payment must be postmarked by April 10.  
 

  Washington Leadership Conference Scholarship Deadline Approaching

  The deadline to submit WLC scholarship applications to your region office is March 10, 2015.  FFA members should submit a copy of the WLC registration form along with their scholarship application. WLC scholarship priority is given to current 10th and 11th grade FFA members. Students who have previously attended WLC are not eligible to receive scholarships. All registration material for WLC is due April 1.

      Deadline extended for State Officer and State FFA Degree applications and Star Batteries

      Due to recent severe weather, the deadline for submitting State Officer applications, State FFA Degree applications and Star Batteries has been extended to Friday, March 6. All applications and Star Batteries need to be completed (including, submitted both hard copy and electronically) and in the appropriate Region office no later than Friday, March 6.  
     

      UGA State CDE Finals T-Shirts

      UGA has teamed up with the State FFA CDE finals held on March 21st to create a UGA/FFA State Finals T-Shirt. T-Shirts are $12 each and only available through pre-order before March 10th. Please pick up and pay for your shirts at the the Four Towers bldg (North Region Office) on 3/21/2015 from 9am-1pm.
