As part of the Georgia 4-H and FFA State Livestock Shows, students may choose to submit record books for their animal projects, which are evaluated by a committee, based on accuracy and thoroughness of records, answers to questions about the project, an essay, and supporting materials. All exhibitors must maintain continuous full ownership, possession and provide primary care for their animal project from the time of entry until show day. Through record keeping and documenting their animal projects, exhibitors learn self-motivation, self-esteem and responsibility, while providing youth a knowledge and respect for agriculture and its importance to the community, the state, and to the international economy. The top five placing Record Book submissions in each age division will be recognized in February at the beginning of the respective species show in Perry, GA.
Record book divisions for the species are as follows:
Breeding Heifer – Junior 4-8, Senior 9-12
Market Beef – Junior 4-8, Senior 9-12
Commercial Dairy Heifer – Junior 4-8, Senior 9-12
Market Hog – Grades 3-5, Junior 6-8, Senior 9-12
- All entries must be from bona-fide 4-H or FFA members for the current year. All animals/exhibitors that a record book has been completed for must be entered in the 2025 State Show.
